Dirk Strangely
Dirk Strangely is a mixed media fine artist and the founder of Artifactism™, a new art genre in which authenticated historical artifacts become the medium of contemporary fine art.
With Souls of the Titanic, Dirk has spent years researching the real people aboard RMS Titanic, sourcing authenticated materials from the wreck site, and creating portraits that exist at once as art and as artifact. The work has been featured on Click2Houston, The Courier, Houston Chronicle, and CW39.

Once the series is complete, Dirk intends to show it exclusively within Titanic museums and exhibitions around the world, which makes these gatherings a rare and local chance to see the work firsthand and meet the founder of the genre.

In His Own Words
There’s no reason a 48-year-old man should be this excited about hosting a first-class Titanic afternoon tea experience, but here we are!
I also get to show off all my new Titanic passenger portraits featuring my new art genre, Artifactism™.
During the event, I’ll be creating one of our guests’ portraits live in a 1912-era illustration style, using tools from that era. What makes these portraits truly unique is that I’m infusing the ink with pigment from an authentic Titanic artifact. Each custom portrait will literally contain a piece of Titanic’s history, making the artwork an artifact itself!
I’m offering just five commissioned portraits for this event, and one will be created live for everyone to watch.
We’ll also have selections from Titanic bandleader Wallace Hartley’s repertoire playing throughout, afternoon tea served on Titanic replica china, and authentic Titanic and White Star Line artifacts from my personal collection on display.
And of course, there will be some wonderful photo opportunities! Guests are encouraged to dress in their finest 1912-era attire to really immerse themselves in the experience. It’s not required, but imagine the photos!
It’s going to be an experience like no other!
Those who attended my first Souls of the Titanic experience got a taste of what I’m creating. This time, I’ve added some exciting new elements to make the experience even more memorable.
I seriously can’t wait for December 10th!
